Dealing with the Stress of Internship Applications
While the application portal, DICAS, hasn’t opened yet, it’s not too early to start thinking about some of your characteristics that you want to highlight.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably finding yourself in the middle of the semester juggling school, work, volunteering, and about a hundred other things in your life. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any tips for you on how to deal with that stress (hopefully you know what works best for you). However, what I am trying to do right now is take about ten minutes a day and just STOP. Stop doing homework, stop trying to prioritize, stop trying to manage my time. I stop doing and start reflecting. I reflect on myself, my actions and my feelings. I think about how I manage this stress, organize myself, and get everything done. I ask myself questions like these:· How exactly am I handling this?· Am I freaking out?· Am I calm and collected?· Do I enjoy being busy?· Do I need life to slow down?· Am I thriving under the pressure or am I sinking? My purpose in doing this is to understand myself a little more so I can truly write about myself and play up the characteristics that help define who I am in my application, as well as note those that honestly need work. You will need to know both for not only DI applications, but also interviews. If you start thinking about these things now, you’ll be able to get your personal statement done in no time!By: Allison Richards
